• Children’s Portraits

    Now taking commissions in Vancouver BC, and surrounding areas (always willing to travel!)

    Over the last five years I have enjoyed drawing children’s portraits, everywhere from the Argentine Pampas to the heart of Europe in Germany and of course all over the UK.  Capturing their spirit in a timeless, classical pencil drawing is such a rewarding job for me, and a lovely way to record that moment as they change so quickly.

    Here is one of my latest which I finished last month, from a beautiful family who have commissioned me to draw their four children three times over the last four years. It has been such a joy to watch them grow up and an honour to have been asked to return to draw them so many times.

  • Now in Vancouver…

    It’s been an exciting few months for me setting up in Vancouver. A change of environment, endless inspiration, incredible landscapes and boundless wilderness. Where to start?!

    I have been plein air painting making a series of small oils on board. You can’t get too precious and you need to work fast, I love this way of painting. I am also lucky to have a small studio space so some large scale drawings are also in progress. Whispering trees and giant seeds.

    It’s a slow process but what a way to explore and enjoy a new country. The results will eventually make it to a gallery in London, dates still to be finalised, watch this space.

  • Mull

    I’ve just returned from three weeks of painting in the most idyllic, isolated spot on the Isle of Mull. The weather was kind and with no distractions I came home with lots of canvases and drawings.  Being surrounded by such beautiful wild landscape and an amazing array of wildlife was wonderful and great inspiration for the work that will be exhibited in November this year at the Flaubert Gallery in Edinburgh. Details of the show will follow.

  • I spoke too soon

    I had been hopeful of some drawing outside last week, however the weather had different ideas. My fingers couldn’t hack it so I’ve been making do with some photographs from Dalhousie where they have a wonderful collection of birds of prey. Very easy to get to from Edinburgh and you find the most incredible owls with such strong characters and intelligent faces. Check the gallery in the weeks to come for the results.

  • Is this Spring?

    The less said about January the better, it was long cold and dark here but things have turned around suddenly. Valentines was a flurry of blooms and pretty things as I helped out lovely Alice in her beautiful shop, Rogue Flowers on William Street, the sun is out and snow drops and crocuses are bravely appearing.
    Looking towards future exhibitions, firstly with Art Amatoria at Duns Castle in May then (still to be finalised) a solo show at the end of the year. This is as exciting as it is nerve wracking!

  • Return from the Americas

    I got home at the end of July from the trip of a lifetime.  It’s taken a while to settle back in to life in Scotland but a beautiful Autumn, supportive friends and some commissions to set my mind to have helped so much.

    I’m now putting some things together for Art Amatoria to take to the Edinburgh Art Fair (Corn Exchange 16th – 18th November).  A real mixture, some Argentine landscapes, armadillo or two and possibly a flamingo, do go along to have  look.
